After undergraduate studies, Erik married his bride and began a fifteen-year career in technology marketing. Later, after earning an M.B.A. from Columbia University, he founded and managed a technology marketing research consultancy.

Being convinced of a vocational calling to Christian counseling, Erik shifted focus to pursue an M.A. in Counseling from DTS and to join the pastoral staff of Bethel Church of Houston as their Counseling Ministry Director. He completed the degree and ministry training in 2010 and left the formal church position to pursue his current roles as counselor, educator, and supervisor.

Erik's areas of special interest include working with men in the areas of sexual addiction, career crisis, and substance abuse. He also has a heart for men from adolescence forward who are struggling with gender identity issues and same-sex attraction. Additionally, he strongly desires to work with couples in conflict who have lost the sense of “US” as they have built defenses against pain in their relationship.

In all of these areas, Erik utilizes his role as a Level II-certified Restoration Therapist.

ABOUT RESTORATION THERAPY
Restoration therapy is a new approach to assessment, treatment and healing in individual, marital and family therapy.  It utilizes techniques and theory that help individuals gain clear insight about their identities and perspectives on relationships as well as giving the therapist a cadre of intervention techniques that move individuals into responsible change of persistent and long standing patterns.

Coming from a tradition of Contextual Family Therapy, the Restoration approach provides the therapist with clarity of assessment of individual and relational issues yet utilizes sound mindfulness strategies to produce real and long-lasting systemic change.

Erik also utilizes his role as a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator.

ABOUT THE DARING WAY™
The Daring Way™ is a highly experiential methodology based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown. The method was designed for work with individuals, couples, families, work teams, and organizational leaders. It can be facilitated in clinical, educational, and professional settings. During the process we explore topics such as vulnerability, courage, shame, and worthiness. We examine the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that are holding us back and we identify the new choices and practices that will move us toward more authentic and wholehearted living. The primary focus is on developing shame resilience skills and developing daily practices that transform the way we live, love, parent, and lead.

Erik believes strongly in the principle that a marriage is always moving toward or away from a sense of “US”. In light of this, he works with couples on key areas of marital enrichment. Erik is a Level II-certified Restoration Therapist, certified instructor for PREP (Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program), Marriage LINKS (Lasting Intimacy through Nurturing, Knowledge & Skills) and Prepare/Enrich and is available to lead seminars and/or sessions in these programs.

First and foremost, he has a love relationship with Jesus Christ as he continues to build his future on what he knows and believes of Christ's character and plan. As Jesus continues to demonstrate His faithfulness, Erik lives in greater hope that what he knows and believes of Christ's character and plan is true, and he loves Him all the more.
